We strive to level the field for marginalised girls. Because when girls and boys have equal levels of power, resource, respect and safety, everyone benefits.

At Level The Field, we offer consultancy services to help donors, governments and development organisations improve the lives and education of marginalised girls. We provide expert inequality analysis to help clients understand the issues and create strategies that will help girls realise their full potential – for themselves, their communities and their nations as a whole.

What do we mean by levelling the field?
Unequal treatment leads to unequal outcomes. However, unequal treatment is often masked by the social norms within which it is embedded, making the injustice difficult to see. This video, created by FCDO's Girls' Education Challenge, illustrates how girls face unequal treatment everyday and how programming can address these inequalities, in order to help level the field.

How we work as a Social Enterprise
At Level The Field, all net profits from our consultancy services are reinvested as grants for locally led organisations supporting marginalised girls. We also extend our partnership beyond funding by offering pro bono expertise to strengthen their work. Whilst we can’t singlehandedly transform the way power and profit operate within the development aid sector, this is how we choose to operate differently within this system – in order to level the field for grassroots organisations.

Why we focus on Social Norms
There are numerous barriers that affect girls' ability to engage in education. Unfortunately, most of these barriers are underpinned by unequal social norms. In our working paper series, we outline how these norms operate and offer concrete entry points and pathways for change.
